Rockstar's juggernaut Grand Theft Auto series debuted on the PlayStation Portable late last year in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, a side-story prequel to the events that took place in Grand Theft Auto III for the PlayStation 2. With Liberty City Stories, Rockstar successfully translated its open-ended world of crime to a handheld system, though not without a few missteps. Enter Vice City Stories, the newly released PSP GTA game that follows a similar side-story formula. Vice City Stories improves upon some of the flaws found in the first game, not the least of which is improved length and direction, as well as a great deal more personality. The story's still pretty subpar, though, and as much as this is very much Grand Theft Auto, certain conventions of the series are starting to feel a bit antiquated. If you've played the original MDK you're probably curious what is new about MDK2. If you haven't played the original MDK then you're probably wondering what all the hub-bub regarding the game is about.

Here's a quick summary. In MDK you played a character named Kurt Hectic. Kurt was controlled in a 3rd person perspective from which he was maneuvered to explore an amazing 3D world. Kurt had a snazzy suit that gave him some powers, including the ability to jump into sniper mode to defeat his enemies from afar, and a ribbon chute that allowed him to gracefully maneuver through the air. The indomitable Doctor Fluke Hawkins and Max, the six-legged robotic dog supported Kurt through is adventures in MDK but never really got too involved in the action.

This is where MDK2 offers players a new direction. All three characters - Kurt, Doctor Hawkins, and Max - are player characters; each has his own levels, powers and items. Most importantly, each character has a completely different gameplay focus. More specifically, Kurt is all about stealth and sniping, the Doctor has few direct attacks but has the ability to create items and effects out of simple household objects, while Max is a cigar smoking, quad gun toting demolition squad of a dog.

There are a few things about MDK2 that you can count on being the same as in original MDK. The humor and wackiness of the game is being maintained and perhaps being amplified in MDK2. The jaw-dropping artwork will be back. And finally, the totally fun-oriented gameplay is going to be there in a big way. MDK2 is going to be a whole wad of fun and entertainment.
